A small, local IT business in Dundee. When you call, you get me.
How it started
It began in 1998 with an interest in how to build and fix computers. In 2001 I took on my first client, supporting a small network of eight machines, and Winter’s Computing has grown steadily since, almost entirely by word of mouth, to more than 200 clients.
The work has broadened to include servers, websites, bespoke software, security and PAT testing, but hands-on IT support for people and businesses is still at the heart of it.
Where I work
On-site support and PAT testing cover Dundee, Tayside, Fife and Angus, and further afield when it makes sense. Website, software and consultancy clients can be anywhere.
The people

Allan Winter, proprietor
I run the business day to day and do most of the work myself, bringing in contractors when a project needs them.
- BSc (Hons) Applied Computing, University of Dundee, 2010
- MSc Ethical Hacking and Computer Security, Abertay University, 2012
Away from work I’m an Archery GB Level 2 coach and chair of Perth Archery Club, read a lot of crime fiction, take photographs, and am owned by two Bernese mountain dogs.

Jane, user experience engineer
Jane works on a consultancy basis on website and app projects. She designs with accessibility in mind and makes sure what we build fits the way people will actually use it.
- BSc (Hons) Applied Computing, University of Dundee, 2012
- MSc (Distinction) User Experience Engineering, 2013
Loki and Hobbes, customer relations
Allan’s Bernese mountain dogs can attend meetings and some site visits, and are always pleased to meet new people.
Until his death in 2019, the business was also supported by our friend and colleague Andrei Paul
